    ΛΠΧ Her-story

Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad /Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.was established on April 16, 1988 at Cornell University. Patricia Rivera, Maria Cabán, Eva Marie Sosa, Migdalia Franklin, and Irma Almirall-Padamsee, our Sorority Founders, strove to establish an organization that would transcend their collegiate experience and consolidate their strength as responsible leaders of the community. The Sorority Founders worked diligently to develop an organization whose mission and goals would encompass the experiences of all women, but especially Latinas.

Today, Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. represents a tradition of strong, proud women whose lives and achievements reflect an unwavering commitment to public service, Hermandad, and the preservation of the rich cultural legacies that shape our experiences. Committed to the three ideals upon which our organization's foundation stands.

    Lambda Chapter Her-story

In the spring of 1997, a group of Women at the University of Rochester came together to research the idea of bringing a Latina Greek Letter organization to their campus. They were looking for an organization dedicated to sisterhood and community service with a special emphasis on the under-represented populations. They felt a need for an organization that would bring women of the same ideals together and form a connection that would last beyond their college years. The following semester, fall of 1997, after extensive research and interactions with several Latina oriented organizations, the group narrowed down its list and made their final decision.

The professionalism, sincerity, and commitment of Las Hermanas both as an organization and as individuals made the decision to choose Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. unmistakably clear. Truly and undoubtedly, the Sorority was living out its goals and purpose at both the undergraduate and Alumnae levels. The women saw and experienced the strength of this Hermandad. It did in fact transcend the collegiate experience.

After much hard work and dedication, three exceptional women, Raquel Ruiz-Garcia, Essie Sierra-Torres, and Jennifer Mauskapf established the Lambda Chapter of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. on March 20, 1999.
